Judges: Neil Wong, President of “Hong Kong Bartenders Association”; Maggie Beale ,“International wine and spirit judger / Consultant of Hong Kong Bartenders Association”; Rahman Lal ,the former member Singapore Bartender committee / now the Director of Hongqiao Sheraton Shanghai(Food & Beverage Dep.); Andrew Yiu , Hong Kong and Guangzhou bartending Championship (year 1997,2002 to 2004).
The 2010 First Hotelex Cup Bartender Competition was successfully held on March 29 to Apr.1 The traditional cocktail competition was held on the first day, the second day’s competition was for fancy bartending tryouts and the third-day was for the bartending final. Due to the strong support of organizers, the match gave a unique cocktail banquet and a feverish atmosphere. Visitors flocked to see the match, Eyes were observing the contestants graceful movements and sophisticated techniques which made the audience deeply intoxicated.. A Colorful flickering stage, shining brilliantly in glass, the air filled with flying bottles. Players form China and abroad had carefully prepared to attend this match and demonstrate in front of the judges with agitated hearts.
With the warm music, and bartender’s exquisite skill, the atmosphere in the first day’s traditional cocktail competition was rapidly rising. After series of distinctive performances, players made all kinds of colorful and “full of the spirit” cocktails which brought the audience unlimited energy and a new interpretation of life. The judges decisions were made upon the players’ clothes, steps, time & performance and also the cocktail’s ingredients, taste, aromas, color, creativity. The winners for fancy bartending and traditional cocktails were: FINDS Bar & Restaurant's Antonio Lai - championship, his “Earl Grey Earl Grey Martini” received the highest score by the jury. Second runner-up was Miss Zhang Hua from Shanghai Shangri-La Hotel and the third runner-up was Ms Michelle Mok from Langham Place Hotel Hong Kong. After the two days’ two-round competition, the final winner was Lei Yinghui from BABY FACE.
For those who had never touched the fancy bartending, this time’s competition brought them strong interests. “China Hotelex Bartenders Competition” not only presents a visual enjoyment, but also promotes the international bartending industry and improves China’s bartendering level. We also hope that through this international hotel supplies exhibition, we can build a platform for manufacturers, suppliers and professional buyers.
