Looking back to the last edition of CIBS in April 2009, we still remember the onsite yacht sales and order volume were over RMB 250 million, which was a very satisfying result in spite of the worldwide economic downturn at that time. The Chinese market caught more attention and interest due to its stability and huge market potential.
According to recent statistics, at least 13 luxury yachts have been sold in 2009 after CIBS show in April, including popular brands such as Atlantics, Azimut, Ferretti, Lagoon, Nautitech, Sunbird, and Sunseeker who all participated at CIBS 2009.
Reports from Hong Kong suggesting that in the second half of 2009 yacht sales improved tremendously. In spite of the crisis, large size yachts are becoming more and more popular in the market. Many local agents anticipate that in 2010 sales volume can reach previous year levels and re-bounce to an even better status than 2007.
The marina venue for CIBS, China (Shanghai) International Boat Show, ran successfully for the first time at Shanghai Yacht Club along Huangpu River in 2009, hosting luxury yachts of well-known Azimut, Ferretti, and Sunseeker. In CIBS 2010, this sub-venue will be become more attractive and active with a larger number of luxury yacht displays. By early December, over 10 yachts have already confirmed their berths, including Princess, Jeanneau, Lagoon, Nautitech, and Tongtec, Sunbird, Seastella, and Activa Marine. Among these brands, both Lagoon and Nautitech will show catamaran on the Huangpu River, which will be the first-ever record for the city.
The main venue of CIBS 2010, Shanghai Exhibition Center, has reached double space booking amount comparing with corresponding period last year. A majority of the exhibitors showing more confidence in the market and confirmed their exhibition plans with CIBS 2010. Three leading national pavilions of Italy, France and Australia have confirmed participation, with larger space than the previous year, while more potential ones are in discussion including Brazil, New Zealand and other nations.
Beside the marina display, more boats will be brought to the Exhibition Center - another increase compared with 2009 edition. Even some regular exhibitors will exhibit with finished boat products for the first time in 2010 after several years’ simply brand promotion, such as Jiangsu Xinsheng and Qingdao Haitie.
Stepping into the 15th edition, CIBS is preparing for a series of conjunctional events, celebrating its milestone anniversary. Being the only member in China of IFBSO, CIBS has also acquired the trade fair certificate by the U.S. Department of Commerce since 2008. It’s leading position in China and Asia market is widely recognized by yacht industry nationally and even on the international stage.
