China's Premier Leather Event as Popular as Ever

A total of 1,126 companies exhibited at the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and Moda Shanghai, held over 3 - 5 September 2008 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. It demonstrated, yet again, that this is by far the largest and most international leather industry event in China.

The exhibitors came from 36 countries and regions, and there were 24 group pavilions, of which the majority (21) were in ACLE. Brazil, France, Korea and Taiwan had two pavilions each.

More than a quarter (26%) of companies at ACLE were in the semi-finished and finished leather sector, almost 18% for process chemicals and dyes, some 12% for tanning machinery, over 11% for hides and skins and a similar number for man-made leather.

Footwear dominated at CIFF and Moda Shanghai with over 50% of exhibiting companies, with handbags and leathergoods representing almost 20%.

Buyer Numbers Reach All Time High
The total number of buyers for the three fairs was up also, at 15,755, which was a record number for the exhibition and demonstrates just how effective this event is as a gateway into the China market for both local and international companies. Most, 13,893, were from Mainland China. A further breakdown of buyer numbers revealed that almost 42% came from the Shanghai district, almost 19% from Zhejiang, over 10% from Jiangsu and around 10% from Guangdong .

Buyers generally praised the organisation of the exhibition, approved of the way it was laid out, and its size and comprehensive coverage.

Suya Yuan, B.A.G Trading Co. Ltd, China - Buyer at Moda Shanghai, Looking for Luggage Products
"There are many good quality Chinese exhibitors here with their products in affordable price range. This exhibition is very well organised."

Cheng Zuqing, Goodbaby Child Products Co Ltd, China - Buyer at ACLE
"This is the sixth time I have visited this fair. There is a full range of exhibits and exhibitors, as well as a good setting of the exhibition halls. The quality of exhibitors is very good."

Chu Yu Feng, Zhengzhou Hengtian Chemical & Trade Co Ltd, China - Buyer at ACLE
"All China Leather Exhibition is professionally arranged with detailed product sectorisation. The exhibition is international and I had the chance to see many products from different countries. The range of leather products on offer is remarkably comprehensive."

Chen Jian Ren, Wenzhou Renhe Leather Company Limited, China - Buyer at ACLE
"This exhibition is getting better and better from year to year in terms of the increasing number of quality and quantity of exhibitors, as well as product variety. I can find the products I am looking for in this exhibition."

Exhibitors Provide Good Feedback

Mr Burt Pi, Sales Manager of Sappi Warren, the USA company specialised in release paper, said that the fair was very successful for Sappi Warren as they had received many new contacts and their stand had been busy since the first day.  He believed that ACLE was growing and is a fair that they cannot afford to miss.

Mr William Greene, the President of Union Specialties, the USA chemical company said that ACLE was the only show they were participating in and they found it very fruitful. They have been exhibiting for 5 years and will definitely continue in subsequent years.

Mr Zhang Jian Hua, the Chief Representative Business Unit Manager (Leather) of the German Chemical company Zschimmer & Schwarz said that ACLE was for them the most important show and their only meeting point in China.  He says it was a must for all chemical companies to participate in this exhibition.

Ms Wendy Mak, General Manager of Cabot (Asia) Ltd, admitted that she was pleasantly surprised at the response from buyers. "Surprisingly, very good response for us. Our booth was always packed with buyers. Possibly it is because our own designed booth attracted attention."
