Editor's Note

The current economic conditions could well lead to a downgrading of eco- and green issues. The danger being that they are often perceived as being luxury options. But this may not be the case and, moreover, they might open a variety of new opportunities. We will be dealing with this issue in some detail over the coming months.

Eco versus Real World outlines a few of the concepts and problems inherent in discussion of environmental matters. It’s a rather confusing situation.

Nothing confusing about Mike Redwood’s piece on Chromium Tanning and Its Issues, which is one of the first articles dealing with eco-issues in this new series.

That is followed by a second piece from Mike outlining the concept of Cradle to Cradle: something of which we are bound to hear more in future.

“Lies, damn lies, and statistics”, was a comment attributed to the Duke of Wellington: a British aristocrat who had a measure of military success at Waterloo less as Prime Minister. Statistics coming out of China were, until quite recently, more often in Wellington’s third category. They have improved greatly in recent years so a report of Retail Sales Still Booming in China should be taken seriously, albeit with a pinch of salt.

The seminar held at the recent Fashion Access last month, entitled Fashion Brand ‘DNA” Past & Present, was a huge success. Given by Jayne Esteve Cure it pointed to how major brands became successful.

The full press release on the recent Fashion Access is available, as are the winners of the Best of APLF Awards at the event.

And there’s a full press release on the success on the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) held in Shanghai recently.

Prime Source Forum (PSF) will run over March 31 - April 2, 2009. Register now for Forum participation.
