Innovations from the Brazilian Components Industry
|
A worldwide pioneer project, identifying and gathering ecofriendly products and ecomarketing developments, will be presented at APLF, in March 2008, in Hong Kong.
Sustainability is the focus of a worldwide pioneer project, Ecoshoes - Green Shoes with Ecological Components. The project was developed by the Brazilian industry of components for leather, shoes and artifacts. Initial results will be unveiled to the Asian market, in Hong Kong, at APLF - Materials, Manufacturing and Technology (MM&T).
"The project will be presented in a conceptual form, showing the innovations in fashion, technology and eco-efficiency", says William Nicolau, vice-president of the By Brazil Technology Institute (IBB), which is run in tandem with the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Related Goods (Assintecal). |

The 14 companies participating in Ecoshoes will develop future products that contribute towards reducing any kind of environmental impact: utilising recyclable raw materials, substituting substances of petrochemical origin for renewable sources, applying less pollutant production processes, among other things. "The market trends points to sustainability, and this project has precisely that objective, as well as contributing to the future of the planet", said Mr Nicolau.
Besides research, Ecoshoes also seeks to identify regions using, or capable of supplying, sustainable development. For this reason the project will be based in the city of Tres Coroas, in the south of Brazil, already known for its strong ecological commitment. "There are pioneer initiatives for sorting and recycling industrial garbage at Tres Coroas", Mr Nicolau explains. "The city is located in one of the biggest Atlantic Forest reserves of south Brazil and practices ecological tourism. It has all the conditions for becoming an ecological reference to the global shoe-leather sector.
