At least the winners 16 winners in the 14 categories of the Asian Marine & Boating Awards 2011 did at the Agile sponsored Gala Dinner held in the Ballroom of the Royal Meridian in Shanghai on Friday evening. The rest of the gathered 400 members of the marine business community applauded their success, perhaps wished it was them on the stage and in the main appeared to find the evening a pleasant counterpoint to the business earlier in the day at the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show where they had been actively promoting their brands.

Some winners had even flown in especially to receive their awards only to be flying back out the following day. This as much as anything, along with favourable comments from many of those gathered shows the already growing stature of the awards in this, just their second year.

In his opening remarks, the judging coordinator and member of the Yachting Journalist’s Association, Alistair Skinner claimed “It is very easy to give a set of awards to your friends and customers but they are little more than meaningless…. I believe worthwhile to ensure that tonight’s winners are indeed winners rather than just recipients of gifts”.
